Ananzi upgrades its search engine

Ananzi.co.za, South Africa's largest search engine and information portal, has once again succeeded in its endeavour to bring the best the web has to offer to the South African internet user. Ananzi has recently upgraded its search software, Ultraseek, to the latest version offered by UK-based company Autonomy.
As Mark Buwalda, Managing Director for Ananzi, explains: "This version spiders web pages even deeper than before, presenting the user with improved and qualitative search results at the click of a button." With this new search, the results are more relevant and the new software allows Ananzi to index more sites relating to Southern Africa than it previously did. Ananzi currently indexes over 50 000 such sites, resulting in over 3 million pages in its main search collection, SA Web.

Stouffer Egan, CEO of Autonomy Inc., comments, "We are proud that Ultraseek is powering such a prestigious search engine. Ultraseek searches unrivalled volumes of data and allows users to find exactly what they are looking for, whether in a web or business environment. These capabilities can now be taken advantage of in greater depth by the South African public."

The enhanced search is complemented by a new, functional layout which allows users to access various search collections by clicking on the relevant tabs that are conveniently located at the top of the results page. The tabs comprise of SA Web, SA Directory, Company Search, News and Maps. Ananzi has plans to expand this functionality even further in the near future.

Users now also have the ability to e-mail an interesting or useful link to themselves or a friend by clicking on the "e-mail this result" link next to each search result.

"We have also added a graphical representation which indicates the relevance of each result as a percentage. This helps users click on results that are really relevant to their search query and to avoid the so-called 'false drops'," adds Mark.

Ananzi's main focus has developed from just providing a search engine to providing a complete online information solution, which is emphasised in its revamped tagline "more >> than just search".
