"We thought it appropriate that we should be doing something for the local area," he said.
"Corporate Social Responsibility is at the core of what we do and we feel privileged to be able to contribute positively to the community in which we operate", he said.
He said they see so many business people coming in and out of the airports each day, and nothing of what they do benefits the surrounding community. "So we decided to contribute from our airport advertising income to the local community," said Chiumia.
Greg Benatar, Group Sales and Marketing Director of Alliance Media, said the company was donating computers because the core of their Corporate Social Responsibility programme is education and youth.
"We believe that the days of hand-outs are history, because research has shown that if given training and education, communities can and do uplift themselves," he said."It is for this reason that we decided to donate computers and training, such that we can contribute to sustainable growth and development," he continued.
The official handover was attended by the school headmaster, his team of educators, the Chief and Village Development Committee as well as the students.
Benatar commended the Alliance Media Malawi
team for their initiative in this project. "We are very proud of Alliance Media Malawi's initiative in this project, which is very much aligned to the Alliance Media Corporate Social Responsibility
objectives," he said.
Benatar said as Group Sales and Marketing Director, he is on a personal drive to get more of the private sector to donate to projects that are not simply hand-outs, but that contribute to long term economic growth and sustainability of our communities.
