Egg Films' Lebogang Rasethaba directed Mega Data and Mega Bonus, two music video-styled ads for Cell C featuring Aewon Wolf and Sketchy Bongo from The Wolf Pack.
"I wanted to avoid making another ad where black people are dancing for airtime," says Lebo. "I wanted to rather create something that belongs within a music video context, within that creative and visual language, so the dancing has context. So we had real musicians make a real song that was shot like a music video. If the cast weren't dancing, what else would they be doing?"
Lebogang is full of praise for The Wolf Pack. "The best part of my job is going from fanboy to collaborator."
Conceptualised by 1886's creative team of Stuart Stobbs, Natalie Urban, Mbeu "Snooze" Lambuwa and Mark Livini, the ads were choreographed by Courtnaé Paul, shot by Motheo Moeng and edited by Julian Redpath at Left.
